Willpower depletion
why is self control so hard
Willpower depletion is the proposal that self-control draws on a limited resource that tires with use. The strong version has failed to replicate reliably; what does hold is that relying on in-the-moment restraint is a fragile strategy compared with changing the situation.
What to do about it
Design the situation so restraint is not required. That is the durable version.

How people say it
Nobody looks this up by its clinical name. These are the ways it actually gets said.
- I run out of willpower
- why is self control so hard
- I resist all day then cave
- willpower is not enough
- setting up my environment instead
- removing temptation from the house
- I cannot rely on discipline alone
