Mentor Cloning · also called borrowed blueprint
why do I sound like my mentor instead of myself
Mentor Cloning is copying a role model’s playbook so completely — their vocabulary, their opinions, their daily structure — that you stop checking whether any of it still fits your own situation. It looks like discipline from the outside, but it is actually outsourced judgment wearing someone else’s schedule.
A photocopy of someone else’s discipline is still, in the end, just paper.
What to do about it
Pick one rule you copied from someone you admire and ask, in writing, whether it actually fits your life — keep it only if the answer is yes for your reasons, not theirs.

How people say it
Nobody looks this up by its clinical name. These are the ways it actually gets said.
- I copied my mentor’s whole routine and it still is not working for me
- why do I sound like my mentor instead of myself
- I adopted someone else’s opinions as my own without noticing
- my life looks like a copy of someone I admire
- I followed the exact playbook and still feel lost
- why did copying someone successful not make me successful
- I lost my own voice trying to sound like theirs
- I picked a mentor and became a photocopy instead of a person
