Grief · also called ambiguous loss
why am I so sad when nobody died
Grief is the response to losing something that mattered, and it does not require a death. Ambiguous loss — a living person you cannot have, a future that will not happen — is harder precisely because nothing socially marks it as a loss worth grieving.
What to do about it
Name the loss precisely. Unnamed grief presents as depression and does not resolve.
