Follow-Through Debt · also called the strong-start weak-finish pattern
why do people stop taking my word seriously
Follow-through debt is what other people start charging you once a pattern of strong starts and weak finishes becomes visible — a shift in how they treat your word, not a feeling you carry. Each unreturned call or late delivery seems small alone, but everyone around you runs a private ledger on your reliability, and it closes before you notice you are overdrawn.
Nobody decided you were unreliable in one conversation. They decided it the fifth time you said you would call back and did not.
What to do about it
Pick the one open commitment you have let go stale the longest, and close it today with no new promise attached to it.

How people say it
Nobody looks this up by its clinical name. These are the ways it actually gets said.
- why do people stop taking my word seriously
- I start strong and never finish
- I make a great first impression and then disappear
- people stopped following up with me because I stopped following through
- why do I get passed over for someone less talented but more reliable
- I have a pattern of overpromising and underdelivering
- my word does not carry weight anymore and I do not know when that changed
